The lithic workshop Traditional and modern approaches to the study of Palaeolithic and Mesolithic stone tools which will be held at the Department of Archaeology, Philosophical Faculty, the University of Hradec Králové, Czech Republic aims to introduce and deepen the knowledge of the Palaeolithic and Mesolithic stone tools. The students will gain theoretical background on the industries in Lower, Middle and Late Palaeolithic and Mesolithic with the focus on Levant and Central Europe. The practical part will consist of introducing case studies, flint knapping sessions, acquisition and processing of 3D scans, excursion, and more. We would like to invite international students of archaeology to participate in this workshop on the platform of Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs). We aim to create a group of 15-20 international students. The workshop will be preceded by an online part consisting of the theoretical background.

Shortly about the workshop
The online part will be organized for 2 days and preceding the workshop. The students will be provided with a theoretical background consisting of presentations on Lower and Middle Palaeolithic in Africa and Levant, Upper Palaeolithic in Europe, Epipalaeolithic in Levant, and Mesolithic in Europe. The second part will be devoted to methodological approaches such as replicative studies and experiment in archaeology or 3D morphometrics.
The workshop will consist of presenting various approaches by presenting case studies, flint knapping sessions led by experienced knapper, acquisition and processing of 3D scans, drawing and photo taking session, using X-ray fluorescence spectrometer.
Accommodation
Basic accommodation will be provided in the dormitories of the University of Hradec Králové. Dormitories provide double- or triple-bedded rooms, separate bathroom and kitchen. Kitchens are equipped with a cooker, refrigerator with built-in freezer.
Hradec Králové
Students can profit from spending a week in Hradec Králové which boost of unique historical city centre as well as modern early 20th century architecture. Moreover, the city is full of various restaurants, cafés and shops.
