Traineeships

The Department of Archaeology offers Erasmus student mobilities for traineeship. The traineeships are available for Archaeology students (BA, MA, Ph.D.) This opportunity is open for students enrolled at a university holding an Erasmus+ Charter for Higher Education. The traineeship must relate to the student’s degree programme and to their personal development needs and, wherever possible, they must be integrated in student’s study programme.

Details

  • Erasmus code of University of Hradec Králové: CZ HRADEC01
    Planned duration of the traineeship period: 15th May – 31st August 2023, duration of mobility at least 2 months
  • Number of hours per week: 40
  • Salary: 150 CZK per hour after the first month of the placement (only working day – work depends of weather conditions)

Activities

The main activity will be the participation in the rescue excavation in advance of construction of the highway from Hradec Králové to Jičín(D35 highway) or in the  rescue excavation of D11 highway from Trutnov to Královec (CZE/PL state border). D35 excavation will take place on 7,5 km long corridor Sadová – Plotiště and run for one year. We expect various archaeological situations spanning from Neolithic settlements to Early Iron age settlement. D11 excavation will take place on 10 km long corridor bypassing Trutnov.  This area is traditionally transit corridor from Elbe lowlands to The Giant Mountains and beyond. In this specific area we expect settlement patterns of paleolithic/mesolithic settlement. The excavation offers a wide range of archaeological features and is acquainted with the Czech methodology used on such a type of excavation. All the archaeological sites are within the territory of Eastern Bohemia.

Rescue excavation work is subject to a contractual setting and working hours may exceed 8 hours per day. Please note the need for proper work clothes for different weather conditions

 Knowledge, Skills and Competence to be Acquired

  • You will acquire insights into an archaeological fieldwork and basic skills connected with an archaeological excavation
  • You will acquire understanding of how to work in an international team
  • You will improve communication, language, and social skills

4. An invitation letter will be sent to you + we can book your place at University Halls of Residence.

After Confirmation of your Admission

1. Fill in the plan of your traineeship
2. The plan of traineeship must be confirmed by you, your home university and the University of Hradec Králové
3. Pre-arrival preparation – insurance
4. Your arrival must be at least 1 day before the beginning of your traineeship
5. Visit the International Office
6. Start your work
