We offer analytical services for measuring the elemental composition using X-Ray Fluorescence Spectrometry (XRF), both for the composition of mobile artefacts, mainly metal (material analysis), and sedimentary samples from sites (geochemical analysis).
Equipment: Olympus VANTA hand-held spectrometer, equipped with a mode for measuring soils, a mode for measuring soils with an emphasis on the content of rare elements, and a mode for measuring metal alloys.
Services we provide within the framework of material analysis:
- Preparation of the object for analysis, e.g., basic conservation treatment, etc.
- XRF measurement of elemental composition
- Photographic documentation of measured points
Those interested in this service should specify what and how they want to measure on the object. They can choose between a completely non-destructive approach or opt for subsurface measurement (using a scratch, etc.). Alternatively, they can consult our conservation department about the preparation of the object/sample for measurement.
Services we provide within the framework of geochemical analysis:
- Consulting on sampling strategy
- Sampling
- Sample preparation before measurement (e.g., drying, sieving, crushing)
- XRF measurement and subsequent transfer of data to the Customer
We also measure samples provided by you. In this case, please pack them in well-labelled paper bags and send them along with the list of samples. One sample should contain approximately 20 ml of soil.
