He is involved in studies of the Neolithic and activities related to this period (seafaring in the Mediterranean Sea, manufacturing technologies for the production of ground stone tools, problems of relative dating of Neolithic settlements with formative processes). His understanding of the above issues has been influenced by the implementation of the Monoxylon expeditions, activities of the Archaeopark of Prehistory, the processing of the Neolithic excavations at Mohelnice and the rescue excavation at Obědovice. This was especially due to the specific degree of preservation or the formative process behind the creation of the contents of feature fills at both sites.

He addresses the issues of hunter-gatherer societies of the Pleistocene and Holocene periods with emphasis on a combination of approaches derived from humanities and natural sciences on a long-term basis. In recent years, he deals with the history of landscape development and the methodology of archaeological excavations. He investigates settlements of hunters near South Bohemian lakes (Švarcenberg, Tisý), Gravettian sites at Lubná, rock shelters of the Bohemian Paradise and the Neolithic mining area at Jistebsko.

He obtained his academic qualifications in Barcelona and Bologna, and gained experience as a post-doc researcher in Olomouc, Copenhagen, Paris, Turin, and Mainz. His main area of expertise is the archaeology of South-Western Europe during the 4th-9th century, with a special focus on funerary archaeology and metal small finds. He has researched a number of issues related to mobility, fashion dissemination, identity, social organization, spatial analysis, topography, economy, trade, and craftsmanship.

He studied archaeology (2007) and physical geography (2010) at Charles university in Prague. Then PhD in Ecology (2016; Czech University of Life Sciences) and PhD in Archaeology (2018; Charles University).
His topic in archaeology is in human – environment relationship. In this research direction, he is focusing on two topics: humans and soils in the past – especially agricultural impact on soils – and the contamination of the environment by risk elements coming from past mining and smelting activities. He tend to study medieval epoch and environmental archaeology. Methodically, he mainly deals with soils, landscape, written sources and geochemistry.

Jan Fišer worked as a ferryman at the Městská plovárna in Pilsen. Then he studied archaeology at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen. Currently, he is interested in the influence of past human activities in the contemporary landscape as part of his PhD study at the Czech University of Life Sciences in Prag.

The graduated cook and graduate of archaeology at the University of Hradec Králové. In his final thesis he focused on the rock environment of Bohemian Paradise in the younger prehistoric period. At the Centre for Field Archaeology of the UHK he works as a field technician and laboratory technician in the environmental department, but also as a laboratory technician processing CT and 3D scans of pottery.
