Geophysical Measurement by the Magnetometry Method

We provide detection of subsurface archaeological structures using geophysical measurements by the magnetometry method.

This method is ideal for detecting:

  • Residential features
  • Linear enclosures
  • Fortifications of hillforts
  • Military camps

Suitable areas for using this method include:

  • Cultivated areas (fields, meadows)
  • To a lesser extent, also forests

Equipment:

The measurements are carried out using a fluxgate magnetometer, Föerster Ferex 4.032, with four probes at a distance of 0.5 meters. The measurement speed depends on the terrain’s condition and the required size of the area. In open landscapes (fields, meadows), it is approximately 1-1.5 hectares per day. In forest environments, it depends on the density of the vegetation.
